Healthcare Foundation of Wilson Strategic Grant Program
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations, government entities, and schools in Wilson, North Carolina, to develop or expand innovative health programs that improve access to healthcare, promote healthy living, prevent substance misuse, and support mental health for local residents, particularly youth.
The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is currently inviting concept notes from organizations located within Wilson, North Carolina, to propose innovative programming aligned with the foundation’s four priority areas: access to healthcare, active living and healthy eating, alcohol and substance misuse prevention, and behavioral or mental health. The foundation operates with a commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for the Wilson community and seeks partnerships with local institutions to address persistent challenges affecting its population. Organizations eligible to submit proposals must be recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government entities, or schools situated in the greater Wilson area. All proposals must clearly demonstrate that requested funds will be directed toward improving the health and wellness of Wilson residents. The foundation emphasizes that it does not intend to serve as the sole funder for any project. Instead, it seeks to be a contributing partner to initiatives with shared responsibility and sustainable outcomes. A strong emphasis is placed on programs that benefit youth up to age 29 and those implementing or aiming to implement evidence-based models known to produce significant outcomes in one or more of the four focus areas. Proposals may address either the development or expansion of new or existing programs, provided they align with one or more foundation priorities. The foundation especially values initiatives that present new approaches, integrate health education and access, and extend community collaboration. In evaluating submissions, the foundation considers several grant-making criteria. Applicants must demonstrate financial stability and provide clear evidence that the proposed program can operate sustainably beyond the grant period. Programs should show capacity for long-term impact and be backed by a well-defined business plan if expansion is involved. Collaboration with local or statewide agencies is encouraged to reduce service duplication and increase reach. Additionally, applicants are expected to show how they monitor program effectiveness through established outcome measurements. The submission process is open on a rolling basis, meaning there is no firm application deadline. Organizations are encouraged to submit proposals when they are ready. Concept notes should be emailed directly to Paula Benson, President and CEO of the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson, at pbenson@hfwilson.org. For any inquiries, organizations may also reach the foundation office at (252) 281-2105.
