Grant Description

The Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund (BARD) is a joint initiative between the United States and Israel, committed to advancing agricultural science and collaboration between researchers from both nations. With a focus on projects that address significant and practical challenges, BARD aims to enhance scientific knowledge and support innovation in agriculture. Their initiatives span numerous disciplines, ranging from environmental conservation and food systems to advanced agricultural technologies. The Pioneer Funding Track is a flagship opportunity within BARD’s portfolio, designed specifically to encourage groundbreaking research with potential for substantial real-world impact. This track targets bold, innovative ideas and fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration. For the 2025 submission cycle, BARD invites applications across all agricultural sectors including Agricultural Engineering, Animal Health and Production, Aquaculture, Crop Health and Production, Soil and Water Resources, Renewable Resources, Food Products, and Agricultural Economics. Applicants may propose standard three-year research projects with a maximum funding cap of $600,000, or opt for shorter feasibility studies with a ceiling of $180,000. A key aspect of the Pioneer Track is its emphasis on applied research and a clear “Pathway to Impact”—requiring applicants to articulate how their work may lead to follow-up development efforts that benefit both countries. Projects will undergo a rigorous selection process based on their scientific merit, innovation, collaborative strength, and the potential for long-term influence on agricultural practices. Proposals that showcase strong interdisciplinary partnerships and tangible applications are especially encouraged. The application process is competitive, and applicants are expected to follow the outlined guidelines closely. Applications for the 2025 round are due by September 15th, 2025. While an official opening date is not provided, a pre-submission informational webinar will be hosted on July 16, 2025, at 9 AM EST. This session will provide insights into proposal development and evaluation criteria. Interested applicants are encouraged to register in advance. For more information or to submit inquiries, applicants can contact BARD via email at news@bard-isus.com or by phone at +972-3-9683980. Further resources including proposal guidelines and grant management documentation are accessible on the BARD website.
