Enrichment Grants
This funding opportunity supports individual artists and small-scale arts projects in Saline County, Kansas, providing up to $1,000 for creative initiatives that enhance the local artistic community.
The Horizons Enrichment Grant is administered by Salina Arts & Humanities (SAH), a department of the City of Salina, Kansas. This local government agency manages various cultural programs to enrich the artistic landscape of Saline County and supports individual and organizational efforts to contribute to this creative ecosystem. The Horizons Enrichment Grant is one component of SAH's larger Horizons Grants Program and is designed specifically to support individual artists and smaller-scale arts-related projects with immediacy and flexibility. This grant opportunity is intended to assist individual artists, nonprofit organizations, or local governmental units operating within Saline County. Individual applicants must have been residents of Saline County for at least one year prior to submitting their application. Nonprofits are required to be incorporated and recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS, while unincorporated groups may apply by securing a qualified fiscal sponsor. Applications may be submitted from February 1 through November 15 annually, but they must be received a minimum of four weeks before the start date of the proposed project—or six weeks in advance for first-time applicants. Projects must be completed, and final reports submitted by December 15, 2026. The grant provides funding of up to $1,000 per recipient. Funding areas include, but are not limited to: producing or presenting new works of art, participation in workshops or training programs, development of promotional materials or portfolios, acquisition of equipment directly related to the artistic project, and travel related to artistic research. Funding is disbursed in two parts: an initial 90% upon agreement signing, and the remaining 10% after submission and approval of the final report. Applicants are encouraged to verify with staff if funds are still available, especially toward the end of the calendar window, as grants are not awarded between November 16 and January 31 due to budgetary constraints. The selection process emphasizes artistic excellence, clarity of project description, demonstrated artistic engagement, and the alignment between the artist’s goals and their proposed project. Applications are reviewed by SAH staff and include a brief but formal evaluation period. Required submission materials include a completed application form, applicant bios or resumes, a detailed project budget, a recommendation letter from a qualified arts professional, and a relevant work sample. For educational opportunities, additional documentation describing the program is required. Applicants are also encouraged to include promotional materials from previous work, when available. To begin the application process, applicants must notify SAH staff of their intent to apply, at least four weeks in advance of the project start (or six weeks for new applicants), to schedule a short meeting. While an online application is preferred, PDF and physical versions are accepted upon request. SAH staff are available to assist with the application process and ensure eligibility. They also ratify final funding decisions within 14 days of submission. All funding must be used as specified in the approved proposal, and any deviations must receive prior written approval. The Horizons Enrichment Grant represents a streamlined and artist-focused funding opportunity designed to address immediate artistic needs within Saline County. It is supported in part by the Horizons donor group, and grantees may be invited to engage with donors through public events or other collaborative activities. SAH requires grantees to retain financial records for three years and reserves the right to audit or monitor funded activities to ensure compliance with program guidelines. This grant also maintains a commitment to civil rights and nondiscrimination in accordance with applicable federal laws.
