Grant Description

The Healthy Impact Grants program is administered by the Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF), a private foundation located in Wasilla, Alaska. MSHF’s mission is to improve the health and wellness of people living in the Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) Borough. With a clear focus on health equity, MSHF supports initiatives that aim to provide all residents with the opportunity to lead a healthy life. The foundation engages in strategic philanthropy, investing in programs, capital improvements, and organizational capacity to address health disparities and social determinants of health in the region. Healthy Impact Grants are designed to support projects requesting more than $25,000 that lead to measurable health improvements in the Mat-Su community. The grant is available year-round and is open to nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, tribal entities, educational institutions, community councils, and faith-based groups, as long as the proposed activities serve Mat-Su residents and align with MSHF’s health and wellness priorities. The grant may fund service delivery programs, organizational sustainability efforts, capacity building, equipment, and capital improvements with demonstrated health benefits to the target population. Applicants begin the process by submitting a Project Pitch through MSHF’s online portal. If accepted, they will be invited to complete a full application. Once the full application is submitted, the foundation typically provides a funding decision within 120 days. Applicants are required to log in through the online system to submit their applications, progress reports, and payment requests. Each step in the grant process—from pitch to payment—is managed through a centralized digital platform, streamlining communication and document management. Eligible applicants must be in good standing as tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) or another relevant section of the Internal Revenue Code. Governmental, educational, faith-based, and tribal entities are also eligible, provided their proposed projects serve Mat-Su Borough residents. The foundation excludes support for individuals, for-profit entities, and organizations engaged in political advocacy or discriminatory practices. It also does not fund competitive programs that exclude participants or projects that primarily benefit the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Applicants are expected to provide detailed financial statements for both their organization and the proposed project. This documentation helps MSHF assess financial capacity and alignment with strategic goals. The online system also supports shared access, allowing applicants to collaborate with team members during the proposal process. For additional support or inquiries, prospective applicants can contact MSHF by email at grantsmanagement@healthymatsu.org. The foundation’s headquarters is located at 777 N. Crusey St., Suite A201, Wasilla, Alaska 99654. There is no formal deadline, as Healthy Impact Grants are considered on a rolling basis throughout the year. However, due to the multi-step application and evaluation process, applicants are encouraged to begin early to accommodate the typical 120-day review period.
