Applicants must serve populations within Abilene or Taylor County to qualify for funding. Grant requests should be between $5,000 and $35,000 for projects lasting up to one year. Organizations may receive only one community grant within a 12-month period; those awarded in the fall cycle cannot apply again in the spring cycle immediately following. Additionally, grantees are required to submit evaluations of their funded projects to remain eligible for future grants. Certain types of activities are not eligible for funding through this program. These include medical or scholarly research, membership fees, fundraising event tickets or sponsorships, church-related activities unless they serve the entire community, travel expenses for groups such as school teams or clubs, deficit budgets or retroactive funding for current expenses, capital debt reduction efforts, individual scholarships (except through separate educational scholarship programs), and political projects. This includes traditional nonprofit agencies with current 501(c)(3) status, recognized government entities requesting funds for public charitable purposes, K-12 schools, community/junior colleges, colleges and universities, or faith-based organizations with programs or projects that benefit the community at large. Geographic Restriction Grant funds are restricted to nonprofits serving populations within Abilene and Taylor County, Texas. Grantee Standing Eligible organizations can receive one community grant per 12-month period. Organizations who receive a fall community grant are not eligible to apply in the spring cycle immediately following, and vice versa. Organizations that do not submit community grant evaluations will be ineligible to apply for future grants.
