Grant Description

The Carrie J. Loose Trust was established under the will of Harry Wilson Loose, dated August 1, 1927, with the mission to support charitable, benevolent, hospital, infirmary, public, educational, scientific, literary, library, or research initiatives in Kansas City, Missouri. The trust is managed by the Missouri office of Bank of America Private Bank, Philanthropic Solutions, which serves as trustee or co-trustee for numerous private foundations across Missouri. The bank applies rigorous review processes involving internal committees or advisory groups to ensure that all grants align with the philanthropic missions of each respective foundation. The trust supports a variety of focus areas including community improvement and capacity building, education, health, human services, and medical research. Only organizations operating within Kansas City, Missouri, are eligible for funding. The trust does not support capital requests such as those for buildings, land, or major equipment unless they fulfill a compelling community need and demonstrate broad social benefits, with contingencies based on funding from other sources. Grant applications are only accepted online through Bank of America's grantmaking portal and must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on June 30 each year. No extensions are granted if this deadline falls on a weekend or federal holiday; applications must then be submitted the prior business day. All grants awarded are for a one-year duration, but multi-year budgets may be submitted for projects expected to extend over a longer period. Awards are typically communicated by the end of October. Applicants may only submit one application per year for foundations managed by the Missouri office, especially when targeting the same geographic area. Exceptions apply only under certain circumstances, such as applying to different geographic regions or to foundations with non-overlapping focus areas. Grantees must submit a progress report within one year of receiving funds, regardless of whether the funds have been fully expended, using forms provided in their MyAccount portal or via email for paper submissions. Questions about the grant process or the Carrie J. Loose Trust specifically can be directed to mo.grantmaking@bofa.com. For more personalized guidance, applicants may contact Tony Twyman, Senior Vice President and Senior Philanthropic Client Manager, at tony.twyman@bofa.com or 816-292-4342. Detailed instructions, including proposal procedures and post-award requirements, are outlined in the “Grantmaking Procedures – Missouri Office” guide available online and in downloadable formats.
