ArtSpark Grant Program
This program provides funding and support to individual artists in the Acadiana region, focusing on diverse and underrepresented creators, to help them develop new work and engage with their communities.
ArtSpark is a competitive grant program designed to support individual artists residing in Acadiana, Louisiana. Administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA), this program is funded through a partnership between the Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) and the National Endowment for the Arts. ArtSpark provides financial assistance, technical support, and entrepreneurial training to artists working across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including visual arts, craft, traditional arts, photography, performing arts, literary arts, film, media arts, and interdisciplinary arts. The program operates with a commitment to accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly prioritizing support for Black artists, Indigenous artists, artists of color, and artists with disabilities. ArtSpark supports emerging, mid-career, and mature artists by funding short-term projects that include a required component of community engagement. These projects must demonstrate artistic excellence and artistic merit while contributing to the artist’s professional development and the cultural and economic growth of the community. Eligible outreach activities may include public readings, performances, exhibitions, workshops, or other forms of direct community involvement. Applicants must be 18 years or older, U.S. citizens, and residents of one of Acadiana’s eight parishes. Artists are expected to demonstrate a consistent and professional creative practice, and only individuals may apply—collectives, bands, or organizations are not eligible. Funding amounts vary depending on career stage, with emerging artists eligible for $1,000–$2,500, mid-career artists for $2,500–$5,000, and mature artists for $5,000–$10,000. A maximum of 20% of the award may be used as direct payment to the artist, and no more than 50% of the funds may be allocated to project materials. Up to 10% of the budget may be spent on marketing, with additional encouragement to hire a professional photographer to document the project. Ineligible expenses include capital expenditures over $500, tuition, debt payments, operational support, and hospitality or resale costs. The funding cycle runs from May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027, and all expenses must fall within that period. Applicants are encouraged to participate in professional development offerings through Opportunity Machine (OM), a local entrepreneurship support organization. OM provides workshops, mentorship, and resources aimed at helping artists grow their business and economic stability. Participation in OM programming is expected for all awardees, and additional career development opportunities may be included as part of the grant experience. The application process begins on January 19, 2026. An information session is scheduled for January 20, and applicants may submit a draft of their application for review by March 1, 2026. All final applications are due via the online portal by 5:00 PM on March 20, 2026. Only one application per person is permitted. Awards will be announced the week of April 20, 2026. Funded artists must attend a compliance meeting and complete all required federal documentation, including a grant agreement, W-9, and a National Environmental Policy Act/National Historic Preservation Act questionnaire. Applications are reviewed by a panel of artists, community leaders, and business professionals using criteria focused on artistic merit, artistic excellence, and community outreach. Panelists consider clarity of project design, quality of the proposed work, the applicant’s professional background, impact on the community, and participation in professional development. Successful applicants will be required to maintain records, submit receipts, and provide a final report within 15 days of project completion. All funded projects must acknowledge AcA, LEDA, and the NEA in all printed and promotional materials. The program offers a valuable opportunity for artists to grow their practice while contributing meaningfully to their local communities.
