The Wawa Foundation Breast Cancer Awareness Fund is an annual grant program dedicated to supporting nonprofit organizations that provide care, support, prevention, and research services related to breast cancer. Launched in 2021 and aligned with October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the fund is a key issue initiative of The Wawa Foundation, a nonprofit arm of Wawa, Inc. For the 2025 grant cycle, a total of $200,000 in funding is available for eligible nonprofits that are helping patients and families meet basic needs during active breast cancer treatment or advancing prevention, treatment access, or research.
The application window runs from October 1 to October 31 each year, with awards issued by mid-November. Nonprofit organizations seeking funding must submit applications through the Wawa Foundation’s website, specifically selecting “Financial Support” and clearly designating their request as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund. Applications are reviewed by The Wawa Foundation team during the first two weeks of November, and awardees are notified either via phone or email.
Grants generally range from $1,000 to $10,000, although some larger awards may be issued depending on need and merit. The program is highly competitive, and submission does not guarantee funding. The foundation places a strong emphasis on direct community impact and supports both local and regional nonprofit organizations with demonstrated experience in serving individuals affected by breast cancer.
Qualifying projects include those that address critical patient and caregiver needs during treatment, provide educational outreach or preventive care, or advance scientific understanding through breast cancer-related research. Organizations must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The fund underscores The Wawa Foundation’s ongoing commitment to addressing urgent health needs in the communities it serves.
The Wawa Foundation, since its establishment in 2014, has donated over $190 million to health, hunger relief, and first responder causes. With the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund, the foundation strengthens its focus on community-based health initiatives that bring relief, resources, and hope to those navigating breast cancer diagnoses and treatment.
