Carton Recycling Grant Program for Schools
This grant provides funding to K-12 schools in the U.S. and Canada to establish or improve their carton recycling programs, promoting sustainability and student engagement in recycling efforts.
The Carton Council is currently accepting applications for the 2025 Carton Recycling Grant Program for Schools. This grant program is aimed at supporting K-12 schools in the United States and Canada to establish, enhance, or expand their carton recycling initiatives. By providing funding, the program seeks to promote sustainability, reduce waste, and engage students in recycling activities. The Carton Council is offering grants of up to $5,000 per applicant to assist schools in implementing effective recycling programs. Eligible applicants for this grant include U.S. and Canadian public and private K-12 schools, school districts or boards, school organizations, local governments, and individuals who are directly supporting a school’s recycling efforts. Grant funds can be utilized for the purchase of sorting equipment, collection bins, communication materials, printed signage, and the formation of “green teams” to drive recycling initiatives within the school community. Applications opened on April 1, 2025, and the submission window will remain open until May 31, 2025. The grant winners will be notified by June 30, 2025, and the disbursement of funds will occur shortly thereafter. All proposed activities outlined in the grant application must be completed by the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the available resources before beginning their applications. These resources include guidelines on creating effective signage, posters, and stickers, as well as best practices for carton recycling at schools with curbside collection or beverage container deposit systems. Additionally, applicants can access a short video on carton recycling in schools and further inspiration through the Carton Council’s school projects page. To assist applicants in crafting comprehensive and effective applications, the Carton Council recommends reviewing the FAQ document available on their website. This document provides additional guidance and answers to common questions regarding the application process and program requirements.
