Global Classroom Fellowship Grant
This initiative provides funding to Indiana University faculty to create collaborative, globally engaged courses with international partners, enhancing students' cross-cultural communication and problem-solving skills.
The Global Classroom Fellowship Grant is an initiative of Indiana University that supports faculty in transforming existing courses into globally engaged learning environments through virtual international collaboration. This program allows instructors to partner with faculty abroad to create cross-cultural learning experiences for students who remain on campus. Through joint projects with international peers, students gain hands-on experience in cross-cultural communication, collaborative problem-solving, and digital engagement—skills critical for their future careers. The initiative invites full-time academic appointees from any IU campus who serve as instructors of record to apply. The program pairs their courses with parallel courses at foreign universities, encouraging students from both institutions to interact over the duration of the class. Projects may span any academic discipline and do not require an international or global studies focus. Each collaborative course must include a minimum of ten students from each institution and integrate measurable cross-cultural learning outcomes assessed through the coursework. Faculty participating in the Global Classroom Fellowship Grant are eligible to receive up to $3,000 in funding. This includes an initial disbursement of up to $2,500 at the time of award, with the remaining $500 granted upon completion of the course and submission of a final outcomes report. The funds may be used for travel to the partner institution, instructional materials, or other costs related to the development and delivery of the joint course. Applications must include a proposal of no more than 1,500 words outlining the joint course project, its integration into the curriculum, and plans for assessing learning impact. Additional requirements include a brief qualifications statement from the instructor, a letter of support from the department chair, and a letter of commitment from the partner institution confirming course collaboration. A faculty committee evaluates submissions based on clarity, feasibility, and alignment with international learning outcomes. The program has two application deadlines: April 1, 2025, for courses taught in Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer 2026; and October 15, 2025, for courses offered in Spring or Summer 2026. Selected faculty become part of a continuing cohort of Global Classroom Fellows, with access to workshops, instructional technology support, and cross-cultural assessment resources. All awardees are required to participate in the Global Classroom Fellows Outcomes Session after their course concludes. Applicants are encouraged to initiate the process by submitting an intent to apply. For questions, the program coordinator, Vesna Dimitrieska, is available to provide further guidance and assistance.
