Animal Welfare Endowment Fund

The Animal Welfare Endowment Fund is a funding initiative of the Community Foundation of the North State, established to provide general operating support for organizations working to promote animal welfare in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama Counties in California. This grant opportunity supports work in three key areas: care for homeless and owned pets, wildlife conservation and rehabilitation, and services for working animals. The fund is designed to empower organizations whose primary mission focuses on the welfare and care of animals within these defined geographic areas. Grants will be awarded in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, with the average grant expected to be approximately $2,500. All grants are for general operating support, and applications that demonstrate collaborative partnerships and effective use of data to communicate need and impact will be considered most competitive. The foundation encourages applicants to share their organization’s recent achievements, goals for the coming year, and specific data or metrics they use to measure outcomes and impact on animal welfare. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities, public entities such as counties, special districts, or federally recognized tribes, and projects that are fiscally sponsored by eligible nonprofits or public entities. Entities not falling into these categories are not eligible to apply. There is no budget minimum required to apply, and there are no restrictions on program scale so long as applicants are operating within the designated counties and aligned with the fund’s focus areas. The application for the 2025 cycle is due by midnight on October 1, 2025. Grants will be awarded following a review period that may take up to three months, and the anticipated funding period will span from December 2025 through December 2026. Reimbursement for costs incurred before the start of the funding period is not permitted. Final reporting requirements include financial and narrative components and are mandatory for grantees. All applications must be submitted online through the foundation's Submittable platform. High-resolution photos or videos are requested as part of the submission to help illustrate the applicant’s work.
