The ARRL Foundation offers Amateur Radio Grants to support educational and promotional amateur radio initiatives across the United States. The ARRL Foundation is a nonprofit arm of the American Radio Relay League, dedicated to advancing amateur radio through support for education, training, and community-based activities.
The grant is intended to fund amateur radio-related projects, with a strong preference for those that focus on educating and licensing new operators, especially youth. Proposals that demonstrate sustainability and expansion potential, as well as support from local amateur radio communities or clubs, are encouraged. The Foundation does not consider applications for emergency communications, ongoing operations, or individual projects.
Eligible applicants are organizations based in the United States. Individuals are not eligible, and proposed projects must occur within the U.S. Awards typically do not exceed $3,000, and the Foundation prefers not to be the sole source of funding for a project. Evidence of successful prior fundraising increases a proposalโs competitiveness.
Applications are accepted three times per year: February, June, and October. The current cycle is open from June 1 to June 30. Submitted proposals are reviewed by a Grant Committee, with final decisions made by the Foundation Board. Notifications are sent approximately one month after the cycle closes.
No preliminary deadlines such as letters of intent or pre-submission questions are specified. Applicants are encouraged to submit full proposals by the end of the submission window. Applications are not accepted on a rolling basis, but the opportunity is recurring and expected to reopen in October.
For questions or assistance, applicants can contact the ARRL Foundation via email at foundation@arrl.org or by phone at 1-888-277-5289.
