The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is offering grant funding through the "Ending California’s Tobacco Epidemic in Every Community" initiative under Request for Application (RFA) 24-10095. This funding opportunity aims to support up to 43 local projects over a 36-month period, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028. The goal is to accelerate efforts toward ending California's tobacco epidemic by implementing policy, system, and environmental change strategies that engage communities disproportionately targeted by the tobacco industry. Priority populations include African American/Black, Asian/Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Latino, LGBTQ+, and rural residents.
Each awardee is required to work on at least one policy objective and one asset objective aimed at advancing local tobacco control efforts. The maximum award amount is $900,000 for the entire three-year period, with a total funding pool of up to $38.7 million. Funding is contingent upon state revenues, appropriations, and successful grant performance.
The RFA was released on September 12, 2024. A mandatory Letter of Intent is due by October 18, 2024, at 5:00 PM PT, and the full application is due by November 8, 2024, at 5:00 PM PT. An optional informational webinar will be held on September 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM PT. Applicants can access the RFA and updates on the Tobacco Control Funding Opportunities and Resources (TCFOR) website. Written questions will be accepted until October 3, 2024, with responses posted on October 10, 2024.
