Grant Description

The City of Worthington, Ohio, has opened applications for its 2026 Community Grant Program, designed to assist non-profit organizations in implementing projects or programs that deliver broad community benefits within the city. Administered by the Worthington City Council and its designated committee, this local grant opportunity provides direct support to nonprofits that align with the city’s community improvement objectives. A total of $63,260 has been allocated for the 2026 funding cycle, reflecting the city's commitment to strengthening social support structures and enhancing the quality of life for residents through nonprofit partnership. The program prioritizes proposals in three tiers: (1a) provision of basic human necessities such as food and clothing, (1b) mental health services and community counseling for individuals facing mental or social health challenges, and (2) general improvement of the Worthington community. These priorities guide the review and selection process, with distribution of funds based on the order of importance and community need. Organizations addressing these top priorities will be evaluated more favorably, although applications falling under the broader category of community enhancement are still eligible. Eligible applicants must be non-profit organizations that serve the Worthington community. Preference is given to those whose primary program or membership base is within the city limits, and additional consideration is provided to those serving residents within the Worthington School District. Importantly, the grant does not require a matching contribution, though the percentage of the organization’s overall budget represented by the request is a factor in evaluation. Organizations currently receiving funding must reapply, and past funding does not guarantee future support. The application process is straightforward. Interested organizations must submit their applications no later than 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Submissions can be completed online via the City of Worthington’s website, or sent via email, postal mail, or hand delivery to the City Manager’s office at 6550 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio. A downloadable application packet and scoring matrix are also available on the website. Application components include an outline of the proposed program or project, a detailed budget indicating the City-funded portion, documentation of nonprofit status, and the organization’s most recent financial statements. For those who have applied in the past three years with no substantial changes in financials, resubmission of these documents is not required. Once applications are received, the City Council will designate a committee to review proposals and make funding recommendations. Applicants may be invited to make a formal appearance and provide additional details. The City Council will make the final funding decisions, and award distributions are expected by the end of the first quarter of 2026. Fund recipients are subject to audit by the Worthington Finance Department to ensure proper use of City funds. Organizations interested in applying or seeking further clarification may contact Management Assistant Riley Hoover via email at [email protected] or by phone at 614-786-7347. Note that applications focused on arts or cultural activities should instead be submitted to the McConnell Arts Center (MAC), and applicants are advised to reach out directly to the MAC for its distinct application process.
