The Kids to Parks Day School Grants Program, coordinated by the National Park Trust, supports experiential learning for Title I school students across the United States. The program is part of the broader Kids to Parks Day initiative, which will celebrate its 16th annual event on May 16, 2026. This nationwide movement aims to foster youth engagement with America’s parks, historic sites, and public lands. Through the school grants program, the Trust seeks to provide enriching, educational field trips to parks that promote environmental awareness, historical appreciation, and healthy lifestyles.
Eligible applicants include PreK–12 classrooms from Title I schools in the United States and its territories, where at least 40% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Teachers must submit applications on behalf of their class and must actively collaborate with students throughout the planning process. Each application must incorporate both an educational component related to outdoor recreation, environmental education, or history, and a stewardship element, which can take place at the park or within the school setting. The program emphasizes student leadership and engagement.
Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support in-park experiences. These funds may be used for transportation, park program fees, stewardship supplies, and other necessary materials. Trips to historical sites are particularly encouraged in celebration of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The program encourages field trips to occur during May 2026, aligning with Kids to Parks Day, though other spring 2026 dates will be considered. All funds must be used by June 30, 2026.
Applications are due by January 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM HST. The grant portal is hosted via Cybergrants. Award notifications will be issued on February 20, 2026. Following the field trip, grantees are required to submit a teacher summary, a student-written reflection, five digital photos (including the Buddy Bison plush), and a short online survey by June 30, 2026.
Each awarded classroom receives up to $1,000, a certificate of participation, and a plush Buddy Bison mascot. The program’s selection process is guided by criteria established by the National Park Trust, prioritizing student involvement and integration of educational and stewardship components. For questions, applicants may contact Melody Walkiewicz at ktpschoolgrant@parktrust.org.
Emphasize student involvement in both the application and field trip; include stewardship and educational themes.
