Promoting, Strengthening and Enhancing Disease Prevention through Collaboration with Targeted Partnerships
This grant provides funding to organizations that promote vaccine confidence and health equity through partnerships and educational outreach, particularly targeting underserved populations across the United States.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), has issued a funding opportunity titled “Promoting, Strengthening and Enhancing Disease Prevention through Collaboration with Targeted Partnerships” under opportunity number CDC-RFA-IP-23-0001. The program is a five-year cooperative agreement aimed at fostering collaborations to improve vaccine confidence, address health equity, and disseminate accurate immunization information across the lifespan. The CDC expects the awarded organization to undertake partnerships and educational activities that support the immunization ecosystem nationally. The primary purpose of this grant is twofold: first, to support partnerships that promote vaccine confidence and health equity through educational outreach, technical assistance, and quality improvement; and second, to enhance the knowledge of staff within the USDA’s WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program about the latest vaccine recommendations. These efforts are expected to lead to increased vaccination rates and reduced disparities, especially among underserved and high-risk populations. The funding instrument is a cooperative agreement with CDC involvement throughout the award period. The total available funding is $1,375,000 over five years, with an average annual award amount of $275,000. Only one award will be issued under this opportunity. There is no cost-sharing or matching requirement. Funds must be used for program purposes, including personnel, travel, training, and communications development, and may not be used for research, clinical care, or lobbying. Eligible applicants include state, county, and city governments; public and state-controlled institutions of higher education; nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status; independent school districts; tribal governments and organizations; public housing authorities; and special district governments. The eligibility is broad and nationwide, with emphasis on organizations that can demonstrate capacity for national reach, prior immunization-related partnerships, and experience working with underserved populations. Documentation such as bylaws, letters of support, and annual reports may be required to demonstrate eligibility and capacity. Applications were due April 7, 2023, by 11:59 p.m. ET, and awards were expected to be announced by September 15, 2023. The opportunity is now closed and is not offered on a rolling basis, but based on prior iteration under CDC-RFA-IP18-1804, the program may recur. Interested parties should check back in Spring 2026 for a possible next cycle. Applicants were required to submit a project narrative (max 20 pages), including background, approach, work plan, organizational capacity, and evaluation plan. Required supporting documents included a budget narrative, indirect cost rate agreement (if applicable), and evidence of collaboration. Evaluation criteria focused on the strength of proposed activities, experience in vaccine communication, and capacity to serve national audiences.
