Grant Description

The Waste Reduction, Recycling Container, and Composting Equipment Grant, offered by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District, supports nonprofit organizations, schools, and institutions in implementing or expanding recycling and composting programs. This grant aims to facilitate the reduction of waste within facilities by providing funding for recycling or composting containers, equipment, supplies, and associated signage. Eligible applicants can apply for up to $25,000 in funding, with awards determined on a competitive basis and subject to approval by the Solid Waste District Board of Directors. The grant encourages early discussions about project proposals with designated District contacts—Doreen Schreiber for nonprofits and universities, and Carin Miller for schools—before submitting an application. Key dates for the 2025 grant cycle include the application deadline on February 7, 2025, with award decisions communicated in March 2025. All projects must be completed by October 2025, and a final report, along with supporting documentation, is due by November 7, 2025. Grant awards are announced in November of the prior year to allow sufficient preparation for applicants. Eligible expenses include containers, equipment, supplies, and related signage necessary for effective waste management programs. Projects will be assessed based on their ability to reduce waste and promote recycling or composting. The District provides additional resources, including tips for starting recycling programs in schools or businesses and guidance on purchasing containers and labels. Applicants are advised to provide a clear and detailed proposal, including specific goals, a timeline, and a budget supported by quotes or estimates. Resources such as "recycling at school" and "how to start a business recycling program" are available to assist applicants in designing impactful projects. For more information or to discuss project ideas, contact Doreen Schreiber at (216) 443-3732 or Carin Miller at (216) 443-3731. This grant offers a valuable opportunity for organizations to enhance their sustainability efforts and contribute to waste reduction across Cuyahoga County.
