Grant Description

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Division of State Parks is accepting applications for the Recreational Trails Program Grant. This grant program is designed to support the development and maintenance of motorized and nonmotorized recreational trails across the state of Missouri. Eligible applicants include local and state governments, school districts, and nonprofit organizations. Additionally, federal agencies may apply for funding specifically for motorized trail projects. All projects funded through this program must be open to the public. The primary objective of this grant is to enhance recreational trail opportunities within Missouri by funding the construction, renovation, and maintenance of trails. The program supports both motorized and nonmotorized trails, improving accessibility and outdoor recreation infrastructure. The grant is aimed at fostering community engagement, encouraging physical activity, and promoting environmental stewardship through trail use. Eligible applicants may request up to $250,000 in grant funding for their projects. A minimum match of 20% of the total project cost is required from the applicant. This match may come from local, state, or private sources. The funds may be used for various trail-related activities, including planning, development, and maintenance. The grant ensures that the supported trails are accessible to the public and comply with state and federal guidelines for recreational spaces. Applications for the grant program are being accepted from December 31, 2024, to March 3, 2025. Interested applicants can download the grant application and register for a grant workshop via the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) Grants webpage. A grant application workshop is scheduled for January 13, 2025, to provide guidance on the application process and eligibility requirements. Evaluation of applications will be based on multiple criteria, including the project’s feasibility, public benefit, alignment with state recreation goals, and the applicant’s ability to provide the required match. Preference may be given to projects that enhance connectivity, serve underserved communities, or demonstrate strong public support. For additional information, applicants can contact the Grants Management Team at 800-334-6946 or via email at mspgrants@dnr.mo.gov. Further details, including application documents and eligibility criteria, can be found on the Missouri State Parks website.
