Grant Description

The PG&E Resilience Hubs Grant Program is a funding opportunity aimed at helping California communities enhance their preparedness for climate-driven extreme weather events and other emergencies. This grant supports the creation or enhancement of resilience hubs—facilities or resources that provide power, shelter, and critical information during events such as wildfires, floods, and Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events. These hubs can also serve as community centers year-round, fostering local adaptive capacity. For 2025, the program has allocated $400,000 in total funding, divided into two grant categories: Feasibility Projects: Grants of $25,000 each for assessing community resilience needs and conceptual planning for a resilience hub. Design and Build Projects: Grants of $100,000 each for planning, designing, or retrofitting new or existing structures to create a resilience hub. Priority will be given to projects targeting disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. This funding serves as seed money for hub development, and applicants may need additional resources to fully implement their plans. Only nonprofit or government organizations (including tribal governments) within PG&E’s service area are eligible. Organizations can submit one application and must meet PG&E’s eligibility requirements. Those that previously received Design and Build Project funding are ineligible for the 2025 cycle. The application deadline is January 31, 2025. Organizations must decide whether to apply for a Feasibility Project or a Design and Build Project, depending on their current stage of planning and information about their community’s needs. Proposals will be evaluated through a competitive process, and applicants must provide documentation to verify eligibility. This is the final year of the grant program, making it a unique opportunity for communities to access funding to enhance resilience against climate impacts. For inspiration and guidance, PG&E suggests reviewing resources such as Resilience-Hub.org and other case studies. Additional PG&E programs, including the Community Microgrid Enablement Program and the Self-Generation Incentive Program, may complement grant-funded initiatives. For more information, applicants can review the program’s Request for Proposal document or contact PG&E directly. This grant is funded by PG&E Corporation shareholders as part of its investments in statewide wildfire resiliency, in line with the California Public Utilities Commission’s mandates.
