The City of Monterey is accepting applications for the Special Event Support Program (SESP) grant for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The application period runs from February 1, 2025, through 3:00 p.m. on February 27, 2025. The program offers funding support for not-for-profit events that are free to the public and contribute to the community's cultural, educational, and economic development. A total of $100,000 is available for distribution among selected applicants.
The grant is designed to support events that enhance community identity and promote economic vitality. Eligible events include those that provide educational opportunities for Monterey youth, cultural and arts experiences, recreational and social activities, and other activities that align with the city's mission to foster a vibrant local environment. The program was originally launched in 2015 but was suspended due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was reinstated in 2024 and continues to offer financial assistance to eligible event organizers.
Organizations that received funding in 2024 included Monterey County Pops!, Monterey Firefighters Community Foundation, Monterey Museum of Art, Monterey Peninsula Pride, and Marine Life Studies. These events varied in purpose but all contributed to the community by providing accessible and enriching experiences.
Applications will be evaluated based on established program guidelines and criteria, which can be found on the official grant website. The city will consider the overall impact of the proposed events, their alignment with community goals, and the ability of applicants to execute their proposed activities successfully.
Interested applicants must submit their proposals online through the designated application portal by the deadline. Additional details, including eligibility requirements and application guidelines, are available on the City of Monterey's official website.
