Equity and Access Community Grant Program
This program provides complimentary venue space to nonprofit organizations in Oregon that promote equity, access, and community engagement through their events.
The Equity and Access Community Grant Program for Complimentary Venue Space is offered by the World Forestry Center, a nonprofit organization based in Washington Park, Oregon. Since its founding 60 years ago, World Forestry Center has been dedicated to connecting people and forests by inspiring public engagement with the environmental, economic, and social benefits of sustainable forestry. The organization identifies itself not only as a forestry institution but as a social change organization that reaches both public and professional audiences. As part of its equity-focused efforts, the Center continues to offer community grants aimed at elevating diverse voices and promoting inclusivity through accessible programming and venues. For 2026, the World Forestry Center will award two nonprofit organizations the use of complimentary event venue space in one of several available locations on its campus: Miller Hall, Cheatham Hall, Mt. Hood Room, or a combination of Cheatham Hall and the outdoor plaza. The total value of this in-kind support is up to $4,750 per award, covering the rental fee only. The grant program is intended to foster new partnerships, expand equitable access to community resources, and support organizations working toward similar values of equity and sustainability. Applications will be accepted between January 15 and March 15, 2026. Events funded through this grant must take place in 2026 or 2027. Grant recipients will be announced on April 3, 2026. While past users of World Forestry Center’s venues are eligible to apply, preference will be given to organizations that have not previously held events on the campus, with the aim of expanding access and reaching new partners. Selected recipients are responsible for several post-award obligations. They must submit a $500 good faith deposit within 15 business days of receiving the award. This deposit is refundable after the event but will be forfeited if the event is canceled within 60 days of the scheduled date. Additionally, grantees must cover any applicable damage deposits, security fees, insurance costs, and catering expenses, as these are not included in the complimentary rental grant. World Forestry Center also requires grant recipients to submit a post-event recap within 30 days, detailing attendance, fundraising outcomes (if applicable), lessons learned, challenges faced, and whether the event will be repeated in future years. The application process does not involve pre-application steps such as letters of intent or concept papers. Submissions are accepted during the open window, and winners are selected by the World Forestry Center based on undisclosed evaluation criteria. The grant is open to nonprofit organizations without restrictions on specific causes, though the Center has a clear interest in supporting equity, access, and community engagement. Examples of past recipients include organizations such as Loco Por La Aventura and Portland Indigenous Marketplace, which focus on educational equity and cultural sustainability, respectively. These awardees exemplify the types of mission-driven, community-centered organizations that the World Forestry Center seeks to uplift through this in-kind support initiative.
