Grant Description

The HealthEquity Community Foundation is a philanthropic arm of HealthEquity, Inc., dedicated to supporting charitable 501(c)(3) organizations whose missions align with its core commitment to building healthier, more equitable communities. The Foundation focuses on initiatives that address critical social determinants of health and seeks to remove barriers that prevent individuals and communities from achieving stability and security. It uses the expertise, skills, and resources of HealthEquity to invest in nonprofit programs that directly serve communities in need. The stated mission of the HealthEquity Community Foundation is to empower local communities by funding projects that fall within four core areas: mental health and crisis intervention, financial education and literacy, equitable access to healthcare, and basic human needs such as housing, food security, and safety. The Foundation emphasizes its belief that mental health is foundational to overall wellness, and that financial literacy is essential for unlocking personal and professional potential, particularly for women, children, and under-resourced populations. Additionally, the Foundation supports efforts to address healthcare inequities and to ensure that individuals can advocate for their own health needs. For the current cycle, the Foundation offers grants of $2,500 to eligible nonprofit organizations. Funding decisions take into account the applicant’s financial standing and the degree to which the organization’s work meets need-based criteria. Funds are paid directly to the recipient organizations, and each nonprofit may only receive one grant per fiscal year, which runs through January 31. Applications for the 2025 cycle will open on August 1, 2025, and close on September 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM Mountain Time. Applications are submitted online via the Submittable platform, and prospective applicants must create or log into a Submittable account to apply. Eligible organizations must have an active 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status and be in good financial standing. The Foundation does not support the startup of nonprofits, fundraising for individuals or families, contributions to other organizations’ foundations, endowments, or scholarships, or coverage of travel or conference expenses. It will not fund political or lobbying activities, partisan organizations, religious entities unless they primarily provide social services, athletic teams, sports organizations, or events that have already occurred. For-profit entities and organizations that explicitly discriminate on protected grounds are also excluded. The grant application process requires organizations to clearly demonstrate how their programs align with one or more of the Foundation’s focus areas and to verify that they meet all the Standards of Giving. Applications are evaluated on alignment with mission areas, organizational capacity, financial responsibility, and demonstrated impact in directly serving community needs. The Foundation reserves the right to decline any application and to require the return of funds if they are not used in accordance with the grant agreement. Interested applicants may reach out to the Foundation for questions or to share ideas at HCF@healthequity.com. All technical support related to the submission process is handled through Submittable’s support resources. The Foundation encourages all applicants to review the mission areas carefully and to submit applications before the deadline, as late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. The next grant cycle will open in August 2025, with funding decisions expected after the September close date.
