The John J. Snyder, Jr. Fund for Historic Preservation is a specialized grant opportunity offered through the Lancaster County Community Foundation’s Passion Grants portfolio. This fund supports the restoration, maintenance, and repair of documented historical structures located in Lancaster and Cumberland counties, Pennsylvania. The fund aims to ensure that historic properties owned by Community Benefit Organizations are preserved for future generations.
Eligible projects include structural maintenance activities such as repointing, roof repair and replacement, electrical system repair and replacement, painting, and other general restoration tasks. However, the grant strictly funds execution activities and does not cover feasibility studies or planning costs. Previously funded projects include the restoration of the “Griddle & Grind” historical building in Ephrata and renovations associated with the Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Smith Center for History & Democracy.
Grants range from $20,000 to $114,600. Applications must be submitted online by May 16, 2025. Zoom office hours were hosted to assist applicants, and further inquiries can be directed to Program Officer Rachael Hartman. Detailed eligibility criteria and application questions are available through the linked information sheet.
