The Alternative Transportation Fee Advisory Board (ATFAB) at Colorado State University oversees the allocation of student fees to fund projects that improve alternative transportation options on campus. As part of its mission to enhance student access and sustainability, ATFAB invites proposals for the 2025β2026 funding cycle. This program supports initiatives that align with transportation equity, safety, and environmental impact goals while serving the broadest range of CSU students.
Projects may range from infrastructure improvements to programmatic support, provided they improve accessibility, safety, and sustainability in student transportation. All proposals undergo a detailed evaluation process considering student benefit, environmental impact, and cost-effectiveness. The proposal review includes scoring on direct student benefits, transportation safety, project design and lifecycle, environmental sustainability, and alignment with CSUβs design standards or cultural context.
Applicants must submit proposals via email to ATFAB_CSU@colostate.edu and Aaron.Fodge@colostate.edu. Proposals involving infrastructure construction must be reviewed by CSU Facilities Management. The internal deadline for this review is December 5, 2025, and applicants are encouraged to work early with Remodel and Construction Services (RCS) for cost estimates. The final proposal submission deadline for all projects is January 23, 2026.
Submissions must include a detailed budget, evidence of student support, and project timelines. Finalists will be invited to present during the boardβs Monday evening meetings in Spring 2026. Presentations consist of a 15β20 minute overview followed by a 10β15 minute Q&A with the board.
Evaluation criteria heavily weigh the project's benefits to students, lifecycle costs, environmental impact, and how well the proposal integrates with CSUβs existing infrastructure or student culture. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate wide student support through petitions, resolutions, or advisory committee endorsements. Projects requiring recurring maintenance costs should include five- and ten-year funding estimates and may be eligible for continued ATFAB support.
The ATFAB process encourages collaborative planning and proactive consultation with campus departments. Proposals that demonstrate thorough planning, student engagement, and alignment with the board's mission will be considered for funding, which is made possible through mandatory student fees.
Include clear student support documentation; collaborate early with Facilities Management; align proposal with sustainability and safety priorities; follow CSU design standards.
