Grant Description

The Green Bay Packers Foundation, a long-standing philanthropic entity in Wisconsin, was established in 1986 to ensure ongoing charitable contributions aligned with the values and priorities of the Green Bay Packers organization. Operating independently from Green Bay Packers, Inc., the Foundation plays a vital role in community impact through its structured grantmaking process. The Foundation supports organizations that further its mission of promoting family-oriented environments, athletics, child safety and education, fan welfare, and the prevention of cruelty to animals. As part of the Packers’ broader community outreach initiative—Packers Give Back—the Foundation has distributed over $29.5 million to Wisconsin nonprofits. Starting in 2026, the Foundation transitioned to a four-year grant cycle, with a rotating focus on specific areas of need. For the 2026 cycle, eligible projects and programs must address one or more of the following: animal welfare, homelessness, or human services. Each eligible organization may apply once during the four-year period (2026–2029), with a maximum of one application allowed per organization during that timeframe. Applicants must align their proposal with the designated focus area for the current year. Grants are competitive, and all submitted applications undergo review by a Board of Trustees made up of ten members from the Green Bay Packers Board of Directors. The 2026 application window opens on Monday, February 2, 2026, and closes on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. Applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s online application system. Submissions via mail, email, or outside of the designated focus areas will not be accepted. Required documentation includes project and organizational budgets, a balance sheet/income statement, Form 990 or a letter of explanation, a list of current board members, and details of other funders. Confirmation emails are sent upon receipt, and applicants may be contacted by Foundation Trustees during the review process, which runs through May and June. Award notifications are issued in July, with grant checks disbursed in late August or early September. Eligible applicants must be physically located in Wisconsin and classified as 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations for a minimum of two years. Organizations outside Wisconsin or those lacking IRS tax-exempt status are not eligible. Additional ineligible uses of grant funds include capital campaigns, scholarships, deficit funding, annual appeals, endowments, and activities that impact fewer than 25 individuals. The grant range is between $3,000 and $8,000 per organization. Applications will be evaluated on how well they demonstrate alignment with the current year’s focus area, overall community impact, and the number of individuals served. A strong proposal clearly articulates the need addressed, how the requested funding will be used, and measurable outcomes. While the Foundation does not fund lobbying or political activities, it emphasizes support for direct services and community-based initiatives. The Foundation continues to prioritize sustainable, impactful programming, with a preference for efforts that demonstrate responsible fiscal management and organizational readiness to deliver proposed services. For questions regarding eligibility or the application process, interested parties may contact the Foundation at [email protected]. All applications must be submitted electronically, and late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed. The Foundation's grantmaking process reflects its ongoing dedication to Wisconsin’s communities and its belief in the power of focused, intentional charitable giving to foster long-term community wellbeing.
