The Honouliuli Preserve Fund was established in 2010 and is administered by the Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF). This fund is directed by strategies developed in partnership with an Advisory Committee composed of key stakeholders. The fund supports the protection, conservation, and community engagement activities at the Honouliuli Preserve located on O‘ahu. The fund's overarching goal is to bolster the ecological resilience and public awareness of the preserve through targeted grants.
The objectives of the grant program include mitigating the spread of invasive species, reducing the vulnerability of the preserve to wildfires, and fostering greater community engagement in the preserve’s management. Specific goals focus on strengthening both public and community interest in the ecological and cultural significance of the preserve and reconnecting individuals with ancestral ties to the land.
This funding opportunity is designed for nonprofit and community-based organizations located on O‘ahu that are implementing ecosystem restoration, research, education, or community engagement projects related to the preserve. Eligible activities include strategic planning, staff recruitment, access improvements, research, restoration, education, and community outreach efforts. Special consideration is given to organizations based in areas adjacent to the preserve.
Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or may apply through a qualified fiscal sponsor. Grant awards are available for projects lasting between 12 and 24 months and are capped at $15,000 per project. Grantees are required to submit both interim and final reports, depending on the duration of their project. Funding decisions will be announced in July 2025.
Applications must be submitted through the HCF Grants Portal by 4:00 p.m. HST on Friday, June 27, 2025. The online application includes an organization profile certification, detailed program information, problem or opportunity statements, proposed activities and timeline, expected results, and budget details. Required supporting documents include financial statements, board lists, and IRS documentation, particularly for fiscal sponsors.
