The Beazley Foundation focuses on awarding grants to tax-exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS, primarily engaged in educational, charitable, and religious activities. The foundation, established by Mr. Beazley, is a private entity that does not seek or accept external funding. While it historically favored projects within the City of Portsmouth, it now extends support to non-profits across South Hampton Roads and occasionally beyond, subject to the Board of Trustees' approval. The foundation's grants lean towards educational initiatives but exclude support for conferences, international/national programs, environmental projects, arts, and operational needs of religious institutions, except under exceptional circumstances deemed by the Board. Proposals must undergo prior consultation with the Foundation's President or designee.
The South Hampton Roads region includes several key cities rather than counties. This region encompasses coastal cities and is known for its rich history, educational opportunities, and recreational activities. Notably, the cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth, and Williamsburg are part of this region.
Grant renewed every year. Grant annual deadlines: January 1st, April 1st, July 1st, and October 1st with dates subject to change based on the Trustees' discretion.
