Grant Description

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) has announced the FY25 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Implementation Projects funding opportunity. This program is designed to support the mental health and wellness of law enforcement officers across the United States. The COPS Office administers this initiative as part of its broader mission to advance community policing through strategic support and partnerships with law enforcement agencies. This grant aims to enhance access to and the effectiveness of mental health and wellness services available to law enforcement personnel. Projects may include peer support programs, specialized training, family support resources, suicide prevention initiatives, and other best practices to improve officer wellness. Applicants are encouraged to propose collaborations, though only one primary applicant is allowed per proposal, with other participating organizations listed as subrecipients. A total of $8,850,000 in funding is available through this program, with an expected 55 awards. Individual award amounts can vary, with a maximum (ceiling) of $8,850,000 and no stated minimum (floor). There is no matching requirement for applicants. Awards are discretionary and contingent upon the availability of funds and adherence to applicable federal regulations and Executive Orders. Eligibility is specifically limited to state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement agencies. Applicants who received LEMHWA funding in fiscal years 2023 or 2024 are not eligible. Additionally, state and local entities must comply with federal laws regarding immigration information sharing as outlined in 8 U.S.C. §1373. The application process requires submission through both Grants.gov and the JustGrants systems. The application deadline is June 24, 2025.
