Indiana Dunes Tourism Grant Program
This program provides funding to organizations in Porter County, Indiana, for projects, events, and marketing efforts that attract visitors and boost local tourism.
The Indiana Dunes Tourism Grant Program is a reimbursement-based funding initiative operated by Indiana Dunes Tourism, which seeks to boost tourism in Porter County through support for projects, marketing, and events that extend visitor stays and encourage regional economic development. Funded by the Indiana Uniform Innkeeperโs Tax (IC 6-9-18), the program allocates public dollars specifically to promote tourism and convention activity within Porter County. Eligible expenditures under this statute include advertising, event production, promotional activities, trade shows, and recreational events that serve to attract visitors. Applicants may apply under one of three primary project types: Community Development Projects, Events, and Marketing. Community Development Projects should involve new or enhanced attractions, amenities, or tourism experiences that increase out-of-county visitation and improve resident quality of life. Preference is given to collaborative projects with local support. Events should be large-scale public activities such as festivals, conventions, or sports tournaments that last longer than a single day and encourage overnight stays. Seasonal or commonly celebrated holiday events are not eligible. Marketing funds are intended to promote qualifying events or projects to audiences outside of Porter County. The program offers the following reimbursement ceilings per project type: $5,000 for Community Development, $2,500 for Events, and $2,500 for Marketing. Eligible expenses include digital and traditional advertising aimed at non-local audiences, website development, billboards, and entertainment fees. Ineligible expenses include those directed solely at Porter County residents, operational costs, alcohol, locally distributed banners, and salaries. Applicants must submit complete and compliant applications to be considered for funding. Applications open at noon on November 3, 2025, and are due by 11:59 PM on December 1, 2025. Submissions will be reviewed in December, with awards announced on January 5, 2026. All awarded projects must be completed by December 1, 2026. Reimbursement documentation must be submitted within 90 days of project completion or by December 1, whichever comes first. Reimbursement will be processed within 60 days of compliance with all requirements. Eligibility is open to Porter County-based for-profit, nonprofit, and governmental entities, including municipalities. Private sector applications will be considered if the project draws visitors from outside the county. Recipients must display the Indiana Dunes Tourism logo on marketing materials, link to the IndianaDunes.com website, follow the organization's social media, and may be required to present at a board meeting. Required reporting includes a W-9, expense report with receipts, grant agreement, post-evaluation form, and documentation of promotional compliance.
