PART/IDEA Round 8
This funding opportunity supports innovative research projects aimed at improving treatments and outcomes for individuals with spinal cord injuries through advancements in biomedical and bioengineering strategies.
The Projects to Accelerate Research Translation (PART) and Innovative, Developmental or Exploratory Activities (IDEA) in Spinal Cord Injury (Round 8) is a competitive funding opportunity administered by the Spinal Cord Injury Research Board (SCIRB) under the New York State Department of Health. SCIRB aims to advance the scientific understanding and treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI) by supporting research that bridges the gap between basic scientific discoveries and clinical applications. This grant supports basic, translational, and clinical neurological research with a particular emphasis on projects involving tissue regeneration, repair, and restoration of function through biomedical and bioengineering strategies. SCIRB allocates $8.5 million annually to SCI research and seeks proposals that target gaps in knowledge that hinder advances in the field. Although it does not publish a formal list of priorities, the SCIRB expresses strong interest in innovative work that has the potential to improve outcomes for individuals with SCI. This includes preclinical studies as well as projects that show promise for translation into tangible health interventions. The current round, Round 8, offers a total funding pool of $5 million. Eligible applicants include governmental entities and not-for-profit organizations. While submission of a Letter of Intent is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged, as it helps SCIRB in identifying appropriate peer reviewers and ensures applicants receive updates and amendments to the Request for Applications (RFA). Letters of Intent should reference RFA #20690 and must be submitted via email to scirb@health.ny.gov. The application process includes several key milestones. Questions regarding the RFA must be submitted by December 10, 2025, and responses will be posted by December 17, 2025. Final applications are due by 4:00 PM Eastern Time on January 7, 2026. A biddersโ conference is also available for prospective applicants to register for and attend. Award notifications are anticipated by February 1, 2027, and the expected initial contract period is 36 months. Submissions should align with the objectives of the SCIRB and demonstrate clear potential to contribute to the mission of improving quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries. The evaluation process will consider the scientific merit and potential translational impact of the proposals. Further details, including the link to the full RFA and conference registration, are available on the SCIRB's official communications.
