Grant Description

UVA Community Health, a division of UVA Health, has announced an open call for community grant applications for the year 2025. UVA Community Health includes three medical centers and a broad network of medical practices, cancer care, and outpatient services that serve communities in Culpeper and Northern Virginia. This initiative reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to improving community health outcomes by supporting nonprofit organizations that address critical health-related issues identified in UVA's Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). The grants are open to nonprofit organizations with valid 501(c)(3) status under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Eligible applicants must provide services within the UVA Health service areas and align with the organization’s mission. Individual grant awards begin at $2,500. In 2024, UVA Community Health awarded $265,000 to local organizations whose programs helped increase access to care for underserved populations. For 2025, UVA Community Health is offering two distinct types of grants. The Healthy Spark Grants are intended for organizations addressing social determinants of health identified in the CHNA. These include economic stability, access to healthcare, opportunities for physical activity, access to healthy foods, and promotion of healthy lifestyles. Community Strong Grants, on the other hand, are designed for established partner organizations with over two years of collaboration with UVA Community Health. These grants focus on broader and more complex community benefit priorities such as mental and behavioral health, chronic disease management, and access to healthcare services. Applications must be submitted electronically through UVA Community Health’s online platform by Thursday, April 10, 2025. Additional details are available on the application page, and organizations are encouraged to review the requirements before submitting. There is no indication of a pre-application deadline or formal question and answer period, but inquiries can be directed to the provided email address. The grant program highlights UVA Community Health’s broader mission to foster long-term partnerships with local organizations to collectively enhance public health. In the past, supported projects have included initiatives focused on mental health, literacy, educational programs, food access, services for veterans, and support for full-term pregnancies. For questions or additional information, applicants are directed to contact the Community Engagement team via email at UVACHCommunityEngagement@uvahealth.org. The media contact for this program is Debbie Fleischer, Strategic Communications Specialist, who can be reached at KQQ9DC@uvahealth.org. The application portal is available at www.uvahealth.com/services/community-relations.
