The Gibney Family Foundation (TGFF) offers Regular Grants to organizations with which it has an established relationship, typically those that have previously received a Mini Grant. TGFF focuses on funding initiatives that promote Sustainable Solutions for Independence. As a private family foundation, TGFF operates through a unique model in which unsolicited applications are not accepted; instead, grants are sponsored by family members who identify and build connections with potential grantee organizations.
The grantmaking process is deliberately collaborative. Once a family member has chosen to sponsor a grant, the organization submits an online application that serves as a working rough draft. This draft initiates a back-and-forth review process between the applicant and the family sponsor, aiming to refine the proposal to better align with TGFF’s mission. Final grant submissions are only made after this collaborative stage is complete. All applications are submitted through TGFF’s online system.
Regular Grants are intended for requests over $5,000 and must include a detailed grant plan, project budget, organizational financials, and a timeline. Applicants must also upload supporting documents such as operating budgets, balance sheets from the previous two years, and, if available, a strategic plan. The application includes narrative components addressing project goals, intended impact, population served, risks, and sustainability.
TGFF evaluates applications quarterly. Deadlines are standardized across the four quarters of the calendar year, with key dates including the rough draft submission, final application deadline, decision notification, funding date, and the grant report due date one year later. Each quarterly cycle has set months for these phases: Q1 closes January 1, Q2 closes April 1, Q3 closes July 1, and Q4 closes October 1.
Funded organizations are required to submit a Grant Report or Interim Report one year after funding. Additional expectations include detailed recordkeeping, a prohibition on lobbying and electioneering, and adherence to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles. While TGFF does not disclose specific evaluation metrics, the collaborative model with a family grant sponsor ensures that proposals are developed to align closely with TGFF’s strategic vision.
Submit rough draft early and finalize with your sponsor; ensure all required uploads are prepared in advance.
