The TD Charitable Foundation, established in 2002, is the philanthropic arm of TD Bank, N.A. It is dedicated to supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life in diverse communities across its service areas. The foundation operates under the TD Ready Commitment, a corporate citizenship platform aimed at promoting financial security, a vibrant planet, connected communities, and better health. In particular, it prioritizes organizations serving low- to moderate-income individuals and historically underserved populations.
The Capacity Building Fund supports two primary opportunities: Capacity Building Grants and the Nonprofit Training Resource Fund. Capacity Building Grants are designed to strengthen nonprofit organizations through funding that targets strategy (tactics), staffing (talent), and infrastructure (tools). Projects may include strategic planning, leadership development, technology upgrades, or improvements in evaluation systems. These grants are intended to help nonprofits expand their impact and enhance their operational effectiveness.
Eligible applicants for Capacity Building Grants must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) or affiliated with a qualified governmental entity that is not a private foundation. Additionally, organizations must be located in a TD Bank, N.A. metro market area, have an annual operating budget of $2 million or less, and must not have received over $200,000 from TD entities in the past year. Projects must align with at least one of the TD Ready Commitment’s drivers and demonstrate measurable goals and impact. The foundation does not fund individuals, political or religious organizations, athletic teams, endowments, fundraising events, or activities outside its geographic footprint.
The funding range for Capacity Building Grants is between $25,000 and $150,000. Grants may be used for full or partial program funding. Applications are accepted twice annually. For the 2026 funding cycle, the first application deadline is November 14, 2025, with award notifications expected in late January 2026. A second cycle follows with a May 15, 2026 deadline and decisions issued in late July 2026. Grantees are required to submit an impact report approximately nine months after funding is awarded.
Applications must be submitted online and require several documents, including financial statements, a list of board members, tax exemption documentation, current operating budget, and a project-specific budget. The application also includes narrative responses related to project scope, requested funding, community impact, partnerships, and evaluation plans.
For questions about the program, applicants can contact regional TD Charitable Giving teams through dedicated emails depending on geographic location. All proposals are reviewed locally, with final approval by the TD Charitable Foundation Board. The program is offered on a recurring, biannual basis, with the next anticipated cycle opening in May 2026.
Preference given to underserved, LMI communities; programs must align with TD Ready Commitment; prior large awards ($200K+) disqualify.
