The Community Arts Development Grants are administered by the Alaska State Council on the Arts. This program aims to support small nonprofit organizations in Alaska that are focused on developing arts programming in underserved geographic areas or disciplines. These grants are intended to fund projects such as exhibits, concerts, dance performances, festivals, workshops, readings, and theater productions. They also offer support for organizational development in arts administration, including areas such as board development, accounting systems, and budget planning. The council prioritizes organizations that are volunteer-run and have no paid staff. Each grant award is capped at a maximum of $5,000.
Applications for the Community Arts Development Grants are accepted on a quarterly basis. The deadlines are June 1 for activities beginning July 1, September 1 for activities beginning October 1, December 1 for activities beginning January 1, and March 1 for activities beginning April 1. All funded activities must be completed by June 30 of the applicable fiscal year.
Applications are reviewed following the quarterly meetings of the Council Trustees, which occur immediately after each grant deadline. Interested applicants are encouraged to access the online grant system to submit their proposals. The application system provides all necessary forms and guidance for completing the application process.
