Grant Description

The Advancing Disability Justice Grants program is a funding initiative jointly managed by the Northwest Health Foundation (NWHF) and The Collins Foundation. This grant opportunity supports disabled, neurodivergent, and d/Deaf BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) leaders and organizations across Oregon and Southwest Washington. The grant seeks to advance equity, health, and justice through targeted support to individuals and organizations whose work aligns with the principles of disability justice. NWHF and its partners aim to reduce systemic barriers caused by racism and ableism while strengthening community-led solutions. The grant program offers two types of funding: General Support Grants and Project Grants. General Support Grants range from $20,000 to $50,000 and are intended to support the overall operations of organizations that are both BIPOC-led and disability-led. These grants are unrestricted and are designed to fund the core, ongoing work of qualifying organizations. Project Grants range from $10,000 to $15,000 and are meant for specific initiatives. These are available to organizations that may not yet be disability-led but are committed to developing their capacity in disability justice through focused project work. Both types of grants will fund work from fall 2025 through fall 2027. Applicants must be either 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) organizations or have a fiscal sponsor with one of these statuses. Exceptions can be made upon discussion with the grant consultant. The eligibility area includes the state of Oregon and the following counties in Southwest Washington: Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific, Skamania, and Wahkiakum. Specific eligibility criteria vary depending on grant type, but strong alignment with the Principles of Disability Justice, as developed by Sins Invalid, is required for all applicants. Applications open on June 3, 2025, and are due by July 29, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. PT. NWHF will host an informational webinar on June 16 at 10:00 a.m. PT. Interested applicants are highly encouraged to schedule a consultation with disability justice leader Shilo George between June 3 and July 22. Award decisions will be communicated by early September 2025, no later than September 5. Applications can be submitted via the NWHF Grantee Portal, or through alternative methods like email or audio/video recordings by arrangement. The grant program includes multiple accessibility supports. These include application materials in alternative formats and languages, closed captioning, ASL, and language interpretation. Application support is available by phone, email, or Zoom. Reporting requirements for successful grantees will be kept minimal and accessible, with details provided upon award notification. The grant does not require matching funds, and consultation support is provided to ensure accessibility throughout the application process. Contact information includes Shilo George, the Advancing Disability Justice Program Consultant, who can be reached at shilomgeorge@gmail.com or 503-290-4726, and Maritza Romero, Program Officer at NWHF, at maritza@northwesthealth.org or 503-220-1335.
