The Harry Sudakoff Foundation Grant
This grant provides funding to qualified charitable organizations focused on improving quality of life through initiatives in arts, education, environmental efforts, and human services, primarily in Sarasota County, Florida.
The Harry Sudakoff Foundation is a private, 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in Sarasota County, Florida. Originally established in New York by Mr. Harry Sudakoff, a developer and philanthropist, the foundation was reconstituted as a Florida-based organization in 1993. Mr. Sudakoff was known for his generosity and dedication to impactful giving, a legacy that continues through the foundation's support for community-focused initiatives. Its mission is to fund programs and projects that improve quality of life, especially in the Sarasota County region, while maintaining relationships with organizations it has supported in the past. The foundation prioritizes funding in several key fields of interest: arts, community initiatives, children's and youth education, environmental efforts, human services for families and seniors, and science. While it focuses predominantly on Sarasota County, Florida, it remains open to funding organizations previously supported, regardless of their current location. In 2022, the foundation awarded 14 grants totaling $310,000, with grant amounts ranging from $6,400 to $100,000. These included the fourth installment of a five-year, $500,000 grant, demonstrating the foundation’s willingness to support long-term commitments as well as one-time awards. To be eligible, applicants must be classified as qualified charities under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The foundation does not fund individuals or support general operating expenses, endowments, debt reduction, conferences, advertising, surveys, research, or projects already completed. It also does not usually fund capital campaigns. Applications must be complete and submitted by email in a single PDF file (or in multiple emails if the attachments exceed 20MB) to FL.grantmaking@bofa.com by August 1, 2025. The foundation encourages early submission and warns that incomplete applications will not be considered. Following a submission, all applicants will be notified in writing by mid-November regarding the status of their application. Successful applicants are required to submit a final report once funds have been spent. This report must include financial documentation, such as receipts over $1,000, and a detailed accounting comparing projected and actual income and expenses. It must also provide a narrative assessing outcomes, outputs, and any resulting programmatic changes. Failure to submit a complete report may jeopardize eligibility for future grants. The application itself can be downloaded from the foundation’s website and includes options to also download a sample capital or program budget. Applications are handled by Bank of America Private Bank’s Philanthropic Solutions team. Final reports and written correspondence should be directed to Tony Sangio at the Bank of America Private Bank, P.O. Box 1517, Pennington, NJ 08534. Applicants may also reach out to Paige Bernard, Philanthropic Administrator, at paige.bernard@bofa.com for additional assistance. Recent recipients from 2024 include a diverse group of organizations supporting education, food security, mental health, and disabilities, such as All Faiths Food Bank, Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, and the Florida Center for Early Childhood. These examples reflect the foundation’s broad commitment to community development and targeted support for vulnerable populations in the Sarasota region.
