Hashtag Hayward Grant Program

The Hashtag Hayward Grant Program, launched by the City of Hayward’s Economic Development team, offers local businesses an opportunity to enhance their marketing and social media presence. Now in its second round, the program provides grants of up to $10,000 to small businesses to improve their physical spaces and create shareable social media content, fostering customer engagement and boosting sales. Applications are open until 5:00 PM on January 10, 2025, with grants approved on a rolling basis. Eligible businesses must be located in Hayward, operate a commercial storefront, hold a valid business license, and be in good standing with the city (free of outstanding fines or unresolved code enforcement issues). Maintaining active social media accounts is also required for grant recipients. Grant funds can be used in several impactful ways, including creating interactive murals and sculptures, enhancing storefront lighting and façades, developing district identity through corner building murals, and upgrading signage and seating. Funds may also be allocated to improve businesses' social media presence or websites. Additionally, the program facilitates collaborations with local influencers and muralists to transform business spaces into visually appealing, social media-ready destinations. The first round of Hashtag Hayward demonstrated significant success, generating over 3 million views for participating businesses, increasing follower counts by up to 3,000, and positively impacting revenue and customer engagement. This initiative continues to strengthen Hayward's small business community and economy by encouraging creativity and digital marketing innovation. Businesses interested in applying are encouraged to do so early, as funds are limited and approvals are made as applications are received. Successful applicants will be notified regarding the status of their submissions. This program represents a unique opportunity for Hayward businesses to grow their brand and reach through targeted aesthetic and digital improvements.
