Community Grants
The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation is offering grants up to $3,000 to individuals, groups, and organizations for projects that enhance parks, trails, and recreational opportunities on Bainbridge Island, with applications due by October 1, 2024.
The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation Community Grants program is an annual funding opportunity that supports capital improvement projects designed to enhance parks, trails, and recreational opportunities on Bainbridge Island, Washington. The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, established the Community Grants to mobilize community resources and creativity in support of public outdoor spaces and facilities. The 2025 Community Grants cycle opened on September 1 and will close at 5 p.m. on October 1. Grants are awarded for capital projects only, with a maximum anticipated amount of $3,000 per award. These grants do not support operational costs or existing recreational program budgets. The Foundation encourages submissions that reflect community needs, promote stewardship, increase access and opportunity, and align with approved comprehensive plans from the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District, City of Bainbridge Island, or other relevant property owners. A wide range of applicants are eligible, including individuals, families, neighborhood groups, community organizations, public agencies, businesses, organized recreational groups, and philanthropic entities. Applicants without nonprofit status must partner with a public agency located on Bainbridge Island, such as the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District or the City of Bainbridge Island. Conversely, public agencies applying for funding must also partner with a community representative to demonstrate public interest and support for the project. To apply, interested parties must complete the Community Grant Application by 5 p.m. on October 1, 2025. All applications will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Community Grant Committee. Selected applicants will be invited to give a 15-minute presentation followed by a short Q&A session on October 9. The committee will evaluate applications based on the quality and relevance of the proposed project and make award recommendations to the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Grant recipients will enter into a formal agreement upon approval. Projects must be located in public parks, trails, open spaces, or facilities on Bainbridge Island. They should enhance public usage and demonstrate a realistic budget, timeline, and maintenance plan. All funded projects must be completed by September 30, 2026, unless an extension is formally approved. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Foundation with questions or for assistance. All inquiries should be directed to Heidi Urish, Community Programs & Events Manager, at heidi@biparksfoundation.org.
