2025 Centers for Advanced Technology (CAT) Program
This program provides funding to research centers in New York State for collaborative projects with industry partners, focusing on technology development, workforce training, and economic growth in fields like AI, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing.
The Centers for Advanced Technology (CAT) program, managed by Empire State Development (ESD), supports applied research and technology development to drive economic growth in New York State. The program funds collaborative research between applied research centers and industry partners, with a focus on workforce development and leveraging state funds to attract private sector investment. Designated CAT centers are awarded ESD funding for a ten-year period, contingent on performance, to support technology-specific advancements. Each CAT center must develop programs targeting three objectives: (1) industry-collaborative research and technology transfer with measurable economic impact within one to three years, (2) industry-focused education and training, and (3) outreach and partnership building to support non-research industry needs. Funding up to $903,954 per year is available for centers focused on fields such as AI, life sciences, nanotechnology, semiconductors, photonics, energy systems, and advanced manufacturing. The program will launch on July 1, 2025, with opportunities open statewide. Proposals are due by December 31, 2024, and applicants are encouraged to form an Industrial Advisory Board to guide alignment with industry goals and impacts.
