Grant Description

The Jar of Love Fund 2025 New York cycle is a microgrant program organized by ARTNOIR in partnership with Sotheby’s. ARTNOIR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 during a period of global unrest, with a mission to redistribute resources and provide cultural care for artists and cultural workers of color. Since its founding, the Jar of Love Fund has distributed over $300,000 in direct support and continues to evolve as a platform that uplifts historically underserved communities. Sotheby’s has been a central partner, enabling the program’s expansion and sustainability, while ensuring that artists and cultural producers of color gain access to financial support and professional networks. The 2025 Jar of Love Fund focuses specifically on creatives residing in New York State and adjacent Tribal Nations. Grantees will receive an unrestricted grant of $5,000, alongside mentorship and access to programming designed to foster long-term artistic and community impact. The program emphasizes building a supportive cohort, connecting awardees with peers, and integrating them into broader arts ecosystems. The fund’s previous cycle, in 2024, expanded internationally through collaboration with Dr. Samuel Ross MBE’s Black British Artist Grants Programme, extending support to New York and London. This transatlantic partnership produced a diverse group of grantees such as Emmanuel Massillon and Daria S. Harper in New York, and Bafic and Phoebe Collings-James in London. Eligibility for the 2025 cycle requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, reside in New York State or adjacent Tribal Nations, and actively work within the arts. The program accepts applications from a wide range of disciplines, including visual art, performance, choreography, writing, design, and curation. Applicants are encouraged from across all gender identities, sexual orientations, disability statuses, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The fund is committed to equity in arts funding and prioritizes outreach to historically underserved communities. Applications for the 2025 cycle opened earlier this year and will close on September 15, 2025. Submissions must be completed through the official online form provided by ARTNOIR. Applicants are asked to provide personal information, artistic background, recent project highlights, and a brief description of how they intend to use the microgrant. Supporting documentation such as a website or digital portfolio link is required, along with two references. Applicants must also be able to provide a W9 form and valid taxpayer identification (SSN or ITIN). The evaluation process is conducted by a distinguished selection committee. The 2025 panel includes Derrick Adams, a multidisciplinary artist; Dr. Kellie Jones, a professor of modern art and African American and African Diaspora Studies at Columbia University; and Diya Vij, curator at Creative Time. The committee reviews submissions to identify grantees whose work demonstrates artistic excellence, cultural innovation, and meaningful social impact. The cohort for 2025 is scheduled to be announced in fall 2025. Applicants or interested parties seeking further information are encouraged to contact ARTNOIR at hello@artnoir.co. Updates and announcements are also available through ARTNOIR’s official website at artnoir.org and social media platforms at @artnoir.co. ARTNOIR’s Jar of Love Fund continues to strengthen its mission of empowering artists and cultural workers of color by providing both financial and professional support that fosters sustainability, visibility, and long-term community building.
