Classroom Grant Program
This program provides funding to K-12 educators and partnering nonprofits in Alabama to enhance classroom resources, mental health support, and educational experiences for students, particularly in Title I schools.
The Classroom Grant program, administered by the Alabama Power Foundation, is designed to help K-12 educators improve the learning environment in schools by providing up to $1,000 in funding per grant cycle. The grants aim to support classroom materials, library enhancements, mental health resources, and other tools that directly contribute to a better educational experience for students. There are two funding cycles annually. The second application cycle in 2025 opens on September 15 and closes on September 26. Eligible applicants include teachers and educators working in grades K through 12, as well as nonprofits that partner directly with schools to deliver educational programming or address mental health needs. However, even when nonprofits apply, the application must be submitted in the name of the school, and all funds are disbursed directly to the school. The program places particular emphasis on Title I public schools or schools where 50% or more of full-time students receive free or reduced meals. Preference is also given to schools located within the Alabama Power service area. Applications must specify the intended use of grant funds and demonstrate how the funding will positively impact students. All applicants are required to include an estimate of the number of students who will benefit from the proposed project. Eligible expenditures include classroom supplies, book sets, library resources, mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL) supports, tutoring materials, and supplies to enhance student safety and well-being. Events or programs that increase family and community engagement in education are also supported. Applications are reviewed by the Alabama Power Foundation based on adherence to the Classroom Grant guidelines. Applicants may be contacted to make revisions if issues are identified and time permits before the deadline. Applications submitted on the final day of the cycle may not be eligible for revision if errors are found. The Classroom Grant is offered on a recurring basis, with two annual funding cycles. The next expected application window after this current cycle is anticipated to open on February 10, 2026. Schools or nonprofit partners interested in applying are encouraged to plan early to ensure compliance with all requirements and maximize the impact of their proposals.
