Local Grant Program

The Local Grant Program administered by Civic Lubbock, Inc. is designed to support nonprofit organizations in Lubbock, Texas that present arts, cultural, or entertainment events at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center or the Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre. Established in 1977, this program has been a longstanding source of support for local events that foster community engagement and cultural enrichment. The funding for this grant is generated from net revenues accrued through the operation of concessions, Select-a-Seat services, and catering commissions at the aforementioned venues. For the 2026/2027 grant cycle, a total of $110,000 has been allocated—marking the highest amount ever designated for this program since its inception. This funding is intended to assist eligible organizations with specific costs associated with venue usage, such as Civic Lubbock stagehand labor fees, building rent, and security fees. Events must be defined primarily as arts, cultural, or entertainment in nature, and they must be open to the general public to qualify for support under this program. To be considered for funding, organizations must meet several eligibility criteria. Applicants must be federally tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and must submit a copy of their IRS determination letter with their application. Additionally, all proposed events must be held at either the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center or the Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre, and applicants must be in good financial standing with both Civic Lubbock, Inc. and the City of Lubbock. The program explicitly avoids supporting events that are political in nature or that could be considered divisive or controversial. The grant application process requires organizations to complete and submit a grant application, a Project/Event Budget Form, and all required attachments by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The funding cycle supports events scheduled between October 1, 2026, and September 30, 2027. Applicants are encouraged to review the Local Grant Program Guidelines thoroughly before submission to ensure all eligibility and procedural criteria are met. Award recipients must comply with additional post-award requirements. These include providing proof of insurance naming Civic Lubbock, Inc. as an additional insured party, entering into a formal grant agreement, and providing recognition in promotional materials. Grantees must also offer Civic Lubbock, Inc. an opportunity to purchase up to 22 tickets in prime seating or VIP areas and extend equivalent sponsor benefits as offered to sponsors at similar funding levels. A final report summarizing revenues and expenses must be submitted within 60 days of the event’s conclusion.
