JMAC Access Grant Program 2025
This program provides funding to nonprofit cultural organizations and individual artists, particularly BIPOC and underserved communities, to create and present projects at the Jean McDonough Arts Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The JMAC Access Grant Program is an initiative offered by the Jean McDonough Arts Center (JMAC) in partnership with the Greater Worcester Community Foundation (GWCF) and supported by the Barr Foundation. This program aims to provide nonprofit cultural organizations and individual artists with the resources needed to create and present projects at the JMAC. The initiative prioritizes making the venue accessible to all, with a special emphasis on supporting BIPOC and underserved artists. By fostering creativity and community engagement, the program helps artists and organizations generate income, create impactful work, and connect with Central Massachusetts audiences. The grant supports a wide range of costs, including project development, implementation, marketing, and the usage fees of JMAC spaces, such as the Worcester PopUp and the BrickBox Theater. Applicants follow a two-phase application process. The first phase involves submitting a Letter of Intent (LOI) that outlines the project’s concept and projected expenses. Successful applicants move to the second phase, where they submit a detailed project narrative and budget. The 2025 application process includes several key dates. The LOI submission opens on November 22, 2024, and closes on January 2, 2025. Applicants selected for the second phase will be notified by January 17, 2025, with detailed applications due by February 17, 2025. Finalists may be invited for interviews from March 3 to March 7, 2025, and grant recipients will be announced on March 14, 2025. Projects are evaluated based on creativity, transformative potential, alignment with values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and the ability of applicants to execute their plans. Priority is given to new projects, particularly those from Worcester County or with strong ties to the area. Returning projects may also be eligible if they demonstrate a commitment to growth or iteration. The grant provides direct funding for discretionary project expenses while covering JMAC rental and usage fees separately. Fees range from $2,500 for a single day at the Worcester PopUp to $14,250 for four days in the BrickBox Theater. Ticketed events must use the JMAC’s online platform, with ticket buyer details shared with the presenter after the event. Applications must be submitted through GWCF’s online portal. First-time applicants need to request an account by contacting GWCF, and those needing assistance with credentials can reach out for support. For additional information, applicants can contact the JMAC team at teamjmac@jmacworcester.org or Jonathan Cohen, Vice President of Community Impact, at 508-755-0980.
