Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants Program
This program provides funding for early-career scientists and audiologists in the U.S. to advance their research and clinical skills in tinnitus treatment and care.
The American Tinnitus Association (ATA) is a private nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by tinnitus through research, education, and advocacy. ATA’s mission includes fostering scientific discoveries that lead to effective treatments and cures, and supporting the development of researchers and clinicians who will advance tinnitus science and care. The organization has a long history of funding competitive research and fellowship awards that cultivate high‑quality scientific and clinical expertise in this field. In 2026, ATA is launching the Postdoctoral Fellowship Grants Program, a mentored training initiative designed to support the professional development of early‑career scientists and clinicians focused on tinnitus research or clinical care. These fellowships are intended to provide intensive, focused training opportunities that allow recipients to develop specialized skills and establish themselves in the tinnitus field. All fellowship activities are expected to contribute to career advancement and engagement with the broader tinnitus research and clinical community. The program offers two distinct fellowship awards. The Graduate Research Fellowship provides $40,000 for one year to doctoral students enrolled full‑time in accredited U.S. institutions who are conducting dissertation research specifically on tinnitus under the mentorship of experienced investigators. This award aims to support rigorous, high‑impact dissertation research and to strengthen the pipeline of future tinnitus researchers. The Music Audiology Fellowship offers $20,000 for one year to support licensed audiologists or audiology doctoral students in the United States pursuing specialized clinical training related to hearing care for music‑exposed individuals. Fellows engage in activities that improve clinical approaches to tinnitus and hearing disorders in high‑risk sound environments, contributing to enhanced clinical practice and training outcomes. Applications for both fellowship awards opened on March 9, 2026 and will close on April 24, 2026, with funds supporting fellowship activities beginning July 1, 2026 and extending through June 30, 2028. Eligible applicants must be affiliated with accredited U.S. academic, clinical, or research institutions at the time of application and for the duration of the award. The review process involves evaluation by the ATA Scientific Advisory Committee and final decisions by the ATA Board of Directors. ATA fellowship funds are restricted to direct costs associated with the fellowship period, without support for indirect costs or institutional overhead. Fellows are expected to participate in professional development, scientific meetings, workshops, or other community engagement activities to broaden their impact within the tinnitus research and care community.
