The South Carolina Bar Foundation is accepting grant applications for Fiscal Year 2026 to support its mission of promoting justice through legal access and education. Applications opened on December 2, 2024, and are due by 5:00 p.m. on January 31, 2025. Funding is available for projects occurring from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that provide civil legal services, law-related education, or work to improve the administration of justice in South Carolina. Specific consideration is given to organizations serving Horry County.
Applicants must submit proposals aligned with the Foundation’s mission and meet certain criteria, such as demonstrating a clear plan, providing necessary financial documentation, and adhering to a 12-month budget period. Priority will be given to proposals focused on the direct representation of clients, innovative legal services, underserved populations, or law-related education programs. Applications are evaluated on their ability to leverage multiple funding sources, collaborate with other providers, and demonstrate significant impact.
The Foundation encourages collaborative efforts and accepts joint applications from qualified organizations. While funding for rent and equipment may be requested, applicants must show that the equipment will significantly enhance productivity and that other funding avenues have been explored. However, funding cannot be used for individuals, political campaigns, capital or endowment projects, or building renovations.
Proposals will be reviewed between February and April 2025, and applicants may be contacted for interviews during this period. Funding decisions will be announced in late May 2025, with funding distribution beginning the week of July 1, 2025. The Foundation’s Board of Directors may also consider special grant cycles for emergencies or projects of interest outside the regular application process.
Applications must refrain from lobbying Foundation Board members or staff during the evaluation period. Questions or clarifications can be directed to the Foundation’s contact points listed on its website. Organizations are encouraged to submit strong, well-documented proposals that reflect their capacity to address the state’s legal needs effectively.
