Grant Description

The Community Giving Initiative (CGI) is a grant program designed to support nonprofit organizations that deliver direct services to youth in West Contra Costa. This initiative aligns with the mission of enhancing student success by funding youth development programs that provide enriching, culturally relevant, and creative learning opportunities outside regular school hours. CGI emphasizes supporting organizations that address the needs of Black, Latinx, and other underserved student populations, fostering a supportive ecosystem for educational success and personal growth within the community. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations that offer direct services to students in West Contra Costa. CGI grants can provide up to $15,000 in funding to each selected organization, with funding amounts determined by an evaluation rubric based on criteria including the organization’s mission alignment, impact, and capacity to reach underserved youth. The goal is to ensure funded organizations can deliver meaningful, accessible learning experiences that contribute to positive youth outcomes. Since its inception, CGI has funded 51 organizations, impacting over 10,000 youth annually and distributing $1.3 million in grants since 2017. This funding enables grantees to expand their programming, enrich their offerings, and better meet the needs of local youth through activities that may include arts, mentoring, academic support, and life skills programs. Applications for the 2024 grant cycle are open through November 12, 2024. Community members may also recommend other organizations they believe would benefit from the program. Interested nonprofits should ensure they meet the eligibility requirements and complete the application by the deadline to be considered.
