Grant Description

The California Employment Development Department (EDD), in collaboration with the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, is offering up to $2 million in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title I Governor’s discretionary funds through the Allied Health Program (AHP) Grant for Program Year (PY) 2024-25. This grant supports two projects aimed at expanding career education, pre-apprenticeships, and apprenticeships in allied health occupations, with a focus on adults from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds and healthcare workers facing barriers to advancement. Eligibility is open to a range of entities, including Local Workforce Development Areas, education and training providers, private nonprofit organizations, tribal organizations, faith-based organizations, labor unions, and community-based organizations. Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to collaborate with employers in the allied health sector, community colleges, and labor representatives. For-profit businesses and individuals are not eligible. Funded projects must incorporate sustainable and replicable strategies, employ evidence-based practices, and actively share lessons learned with stakeholders to promote long-term improvements in workforce systems. The initiatives must prioritize recruitment, training, and employment in allied health roles while addressing systemic challenges in underserved communities. An informational webinar will be held on December 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. PT, and pre-registration is required by 9 a.m. PT on the same day. Applicants are encouraged to submit a Notice of Intent to apply by December 30, 2024, at noon PT. The final proposals must be submitted by 3 p.m. on January 20, 2025. To access the Solicitation for Proposals (SFP) and register for the webinar, visit the EDD Workforce Development Solicitations for Proposals webpage. Questions can be directed to WSBGrants@edd.ca.gov. This federally funded grant program is fully supported by the U.S. Department of Labor and offers a significant opportunity to address workforce development challenges in the allied health sector while advancing equity and creating sustainable employment pathways.
