MCHD Community Grant

The Madison County Health Department is offering grants to community-based organizations that aim to enhance public health in Madison County. This grant program supports innovative and evidence-based initiatives that address significant public health challenges, outside the regular services provided by the Health Department. The grants are designed to empower community organizations that are already active and engaged in improving the health and well-being of residents in Madison County. The program is specifically targeted toward projects that will help fill gaps in services, rather than duplicating existing ones. Organizations can apply for grants up to $10,000 depending on the scope and size of their proposed projects. The funding period for these grants runs from April to October 2025, with funds being awarded at the start of the period. All grant funds must be used within this timeframe and organizations are required to submit a written mid-term report, a final report, and participate in an in-person meeting to ensure quality improvement during the project’s execution. To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be nonprofit organizations, community groups, or grassroots organizations that serve Madison County residents. The proposed projects should focus on addressing public health needs within the county and should be designed to meet identified community needs. Projects should be planned for the April to October 2025 timeframe and must involve a financial or in-kind contribution from the applicant, such as volunteer hours or other forms of investment. Additionally, proposals will be prioritized based on the evidence of their effectiveness, the demonstration of a clear community need, and the applicant's proven success in service delivery and managing funds. Allowable expenses for funded projects include salaries, program supplies, equipment, capital improvements, indirect costs, and travel, education, outreach, and marketing. However, the grant cannot be used for meals, political or religious activities, activities prohibited by law, or Health Department permit fees. Applications should be submitted by February 28, 2025, and will be reviewed by the Madison County Health Department. Notification of awards will be made in March 2025, and grant funds will be distributed in April 2025. The program places special emphasis on addressing the needs of historically marginalized communities. This includes populations that have been systematically excluded from full participation in various aspects of life, including economic, social, political, and cultural areas. Projects that demonstrate efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion will receive priority.
