Legacy Event Sponsorship Program
This program provides financial support to long-standing events in Haywood County that enhance cultural vibrancy and tourism, encouraging innovation and community engagement.
The Legacy Event Sponsorship program is administered by the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority (HCTDA), also known as Visit Haywood. This grant initiative supports long-standing events that contribute significantly to Haywood County’s cultural vibrancy, tourism economy, and community identity. Designed to go beyond maintaining existing events, the program encourages innovation, growth, and modernization. It seeks applicants who are ready to enhance legacy events through new technologies, improved accessibility, and deeper community engagement. To be eligible, events must have been held in Haywood County for at least ten consecutive years, with exceptions made for temporary pauses due to emergencies. Events must attract a minimum of 1,000 attendees per year, with at least 25% of the audience originating from outside the county. Events must be open to the public and take place entirely within Haywood County. The requested sponsorship may not exceed 25% of the total event budget. The program funds events that clearly contribute to the county’s reputation as a destination through media coverage, increased lodging, and local business engagement. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, for-profit businesses, museums, attractions, cultural events, and government agencies. The program explicitly excludes funding for private functions, fundraising galas, religious or political events, and school or community-specific programs. Preference is given to events that elevate Haywood County’s brand, provide economic impact through increased tourism, demonstrate consistent attendance, and foster strong local partnerships. Applications must be submitted electronically via the HCTDA website by the posted deadline. Required components include a completed application form, detailed financial budget using a provided template, and a comprehensive marketing plan. If applicable, applicants must also submit letters of support (for events using public property) and outlines of sponsorship benefits offered to partners. Events must take place within the fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) for which funding is awarded. After submission, applications are reviewed by HCTDA staff, followed by evaluation from the Product Development Committee and Executive Committee. Recommendations are forwarded to the HCTDA Board, which votes on final awards. All applicants are notified of decisions via email. Approved funds are provided on a reimbursement basis and are contingent on event completion and post-event reporting. Grantees must submit documentation no later than July 15 or within 45 days after the event. Required materials include a final evaluation report detailing ROI through attendance data or other performance indicators and three forms of public recognition of Visit Haywood’s support. Failure to comply with reporting requirements may result in loss of funding and disqualification from future programs. Questions regarding the process can be directed to Hayley Printz at 828-944-0761 or via email at [email protected].
