Grant Description

The Youth Grantmakers in Action (YGA) program, operated by the Winston-Salem Foundation, is offering grants for youth-led projects benefiting Forsyth County youth. Projects must be planned and implemented by groups where most members are under 18 and should address community challenges or create lasting positive impacts. All projects must be completed by August 29, 2025. YGA has $7,500 available for the 2024–2025 funding cycle, with no minimum or maximum grant amount specified. Examples of previously funded projects include SAT preparation programs, alternative proms, and youth refugee support. Eligible applicants include groups of youth supported by an adult advisor and a sponsoring organization such as a school or nonprofit. Applications must outline the project's goals, target audience, budget, and expected impact. Applicants are encouraged to participate in a virtual grant-writing workshop on January 8, 2024. The application deadline is January 24, 2024, and interviews with youth grantmakers are scheduled for February 8, 2024. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions in late February or early March, and a community celebration for funded groups will take place on April 16, 2024. Funding is available for project-related expenses such as event costs, materials, printing, transportation, and contracted services. However, it cannot be used for salaries, overhead costs, or projects planned by adults. Projects must comply with safety guidelines, and applicants should demonstrate the need for the project and its potential for sustainability. Proposals are evaluated on their feasibility, impact, alignment with community needs, and budget accuracy. Applications must include a detailed project description, budget worksheet, and list of group members. A sponsoring organization is required to receive funds if the grant is awarded. Youth-led groups without a sponsor may contact YGA for assistance in identifying one. Final project summaries, including receipts and documentation of outcomes, are due by August 29, 2025. For more information, applicants can contact YGA at yga@wsfoundation.org or visit their website at www.youthgrantmakersinaction.org.
